Alnmouth & Lesbury I (151-7) v Lanchester I (149)

Alnmouth & Lesbury finished their season in Division A1 of the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League on a high with an excellent victory over visitors Lanchester on Saturday.

Lanchester batted first and when they found themselves 68 for 9, an early finish looked likely.

However, a great last-wicket partnership of 81 between Greg Patterson (39) and Greg Halliday (45no) frustrated the Alnmouth bowlers and set the home team a target of 150 to win.

Robin Tudor (4-25) was the pick of the Alnmouth bowlers. The other wicket-takers were Nick Denton (three), Ed Brunton, Cameron Batey and Paul Straker.

In reply, Alnmouth got off to a perfect start with an opening partnership of 63 between Straker and Peter Robinson. After Robinson was caught for 28, Straker went on to make a fine 54.

Following the loss of a number of middle-order wickets, it was left to Jonny Ridley (21 no) to see the home team to victory by three wickets.

Alnwick I (158) v Morpeth I (65)

In Division A2, Alnwick romped to a 93-run away win over Northumberland rivals Morpeth.

Put into bat by the hosts, the visitors were not entirely convincing in their innings, losing regular wickets.

There were two ducks towards the top of the order, but 41 from Jonathan Roxburgh and 27 from David Forrest saw Alnwick post 158 all out.

But Alnwick’s bowlers more than made up for the batsmen’s performance as Gareth Bateman took 3-13, David Wright 3-11, Andrew Stewart 2-16 and Roxburgh 2-6 as the home side were bowled out for just 65.

Only Rick Jones (26) and Adam Lawn (13) scored double figures for Morpeth.

l The Division B2 clashes between Alnwick II and Morpeth II, and Alnmouth’s seconds and Benwell & Walbottle were both rained off.
