A special cricket match was held earlier this month in honour of a popular sportsman.

Teams from Warkworth and Amble took to the field to contest the third annual Tom Byers memorial game.

Tom died in 2009, aged 47. He was a prolific opening bowler and he had played for both clubs.

The match was held at Warkworth’s cricket ground. A minute’s silence was held before the game and his father, Dickie Byers, bowled the first ball.

Warkworth won the game to lift the Tom Byers Memorial Trophy.

The Schooner in Amble sponsored the man-of-the-match award, which was given to Jamie Pringle.
