Benwell & Walbottle U13 (72 all out) v Alnmouth & Lesbury U13 (124-5)
ON a hot and sultry Sunday morning, Alnmouth & Lesbury Under 13s travelled to Benwell and Walbottle.
On winning the toss, the home side decided to bowl first and made early in-roads, taking the wickets of Ed Brunton and Andy Marshall.
This brought to the crease Archie Dickinson to partner Rob Burnett.
Both hit the ball powerfully, Burnett scoring particularly quickly and retiring on 30.
Dickinson continued, ably supported by Nick Robertson, until he retired on 32 and Robertson was bowled for 20.
After their allotted 20 overs, Alnmouth had made a sizeable total of 124-5 wickets.
In reply, Benwell and Walbottle got off to a disastrous start with Brunton and Marshall looking to make up for their failure with the bat by tearing out the top of the home-side’s batting order.
Brunton took four wickets and Marshall two to leave the home side reeling at 16 for 6 after seven overs.
Thereafter, a good innings of 31 retired by Robson gave the home team respectability as the innings closed on 72, but generally tidy bowling meant that they were still 42 runs adrift.
