Convincing win for twos

Ryton II (110) v Alnwick II (111-1)

Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division B2

High-flying Alnwick continued their quest for promotion with a convincing nine-wicket victory at Ryton.

Captain Stewart won the toss and sent Ryton into bat on a good pitch. This turned out to be a great decision, when opening bowler Holst bowled a double-wicket maiden in his first over, including a very smart catch from McDonald.

He then followed up with another wicket maiden to leave Ryton stuttering nervously at 6-3. Holst then claimed another for four wickets in his first seven overs.

Holst was supported well by Wright, who was unlucky not to have had more wickets.

Ryton then started to recover and the young pair of Butler and Ellis batted well, although Alnwick got slack in the field and there was some patchy bowling in places.

Stewart still bowled well and managed to pick up three wickets before making a change and bringing the openers back to dismiss Ryton for 110. Holst ended with 5-24.

The opening pair of Matthewson and Harrison started well, before Harrison was dismissed to a good diving catch.

This then brought in the experienced Alan Thompson to the crease. From here, Alnwick never looked like losing and the experienced pair of Matthewson (62 not out) and Thompson (28 not out) finished it off.
