She won Commonwealth Games silver followed by European Championships bronze – now Laura Weightman has been named as a finalist in a prestigious competition for her 2014 heroics.
The 23-year-old has made it onto the shortlist for the 2015 Leeds Sports Awards, which take place in the city’s New Dock Hall on Thursday, March 5.
Weightman, from Lesbury, is in the running to win the sportswoman gong, within the Senior Achievers category. The 1500m runner faces tough competition though, as she is up against boxer Nicola Adams MBE, diver Rebecca Gallantree and triathlete Vicky Holland.
Weightman lives in Leeds, having studied there.
