A SPORTS development team has helped people from across north Northumberland take part in a wide range of activities this year.
An increasing part of North Country Leisure’s (NCL) Sports Development team’s role is helping clubs with funding bids and recent funding successes include Coquet Valley Archers, who have received a lottery-funded grant from Sport England.
With the help of NCL Sports Development, a grant of more than £7,000 was made to the club to buy equipment, train coaches and provide a number of subsidised memberships to Archery GB, the sport’s governing body.
The club, based at Upper Coquetdale was formed in 2010, and now has more than 50 members of all ages. The new bows, arrows and other items will allow more people to have a go at archery. If you are interested in joining or would like more details then by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
NCL has also helped Alnwick Hockey Club to attain a small grant of £3,000 from Sport England which will allow members to gain coaching and umpire qualifications, essential as the club continues to grow.
The club is planning a series of workshops focusing on specific elements of the game including goalkeeping, team formation and core skills.
Further funding of £1,000 has been secured via Sport England Sportsmatch, with Seafield Caravan Park in Seahouses matching the amount and donating £1,000 to the club. Holiday activities are planned for juniors, with ‘Back to Hockey’ programmes for those who may not have played since school, or ever, but would like to get back into the game.
