Alnwick Golf and Croquet Club
Alnwick Golf and Croquet Club began their short league programme in Croquet North’s Second Division with an emphatic 13-5 home victory over Belsay II, a well-established club who also operate in the First Division and play their home matches in the beautiful Belsay Hall grounds.
Alnwick got off to a racing start to establish an 8-1 halfway lead, but Belsay were rallied by their low handicapper Ian Hunter, who won all his singles to make the final margin more respectable.
Each player plays three singles and three doubles. Alnwick were represented by Ted Sisterson (handicap six), John Howie (seven), Bill Parker (seven) and John Frater (seven).
The Belsay team were Ian Hunter (six), Brenda Johnson (12), John Ingham (12) and Liz Parker (12).
Results – Doubles: Sisterson and Parker beat Hunter and Ingham 7-4; Howie and Frater beat Johnson and Parker 7-5; Sisterson and Frater beat Hunter and Parker 7-2; Howie and Parker beat Johnson and Ingham 7-5; Frater and Parker lost to Ingham and Parker 5-7; Sisterson and Howie lost to Hunter and Johnson 5-7.
Singles: Sisterson beat Ingham 7-2, lost to Hunter 6-7, b Johnson 7-2; Howie beat Parker 7-1, beat Johnson 74, lost to Hunter 4-7; Parker lost to Hunter 4-7, beat Ingham 7-6, beat Parker 7-4; Frater beat Johnson 7-3, beat Parker 7-3, beat Ingham 7-1.
Alnwick club days are Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.30pm-4.30pm at the Cricket Club, Weaver’s Way.
