GOLF clubs across Northumberland are being urged to sign up for a new course to help ensure they have the right child protection policies in place.
The workshop is being backed by The PGA, English Golf Union, English Women’s Golf Association and Golf Foundation as part of the Children in Golf Strategy Group.
“It is essential that those working at the ‘sharp end’ of golf delivery for young people are informed about child protection issues and how it affects the way they work,” says Lisa Ferrie, county development officer for the Northumberland County Golf Partnership.
The safeguarding and protecting children workshop is taking place at the City of Newcastle Golf Club, in Gosforth, on Thursday, April 12, (6pm-9pm) and is aimed at golf professionals, junior organisers, volunteers and club secretary/managers.
The course has been subsidised by EGU/EWGA and will be offered for £28 per person. It is also open to U18s, but a parental permission form must be completed before attendance.
At the workshop, attendees will:
Discuss what constitutes good or poor practice;
Discuss a range of child protection issues and scenarios;
Be given information on how to respond to an incident or allegation;
Receive a copy of the Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf, an SCUK Resource Book and certificate of attendance.
