More than 60 pairs entered the first Northumberland Three Castles Golf Tournament.

With cash prizes up for grabs, the event took place from July 24 to July 26.

The overall winners of the competition – a better-ball format – were Gordon Grear and Shaun Wilkinson, from Longhirst Hall Golf Club, with an accumulated score of 135 points over the three days.

Second overall were Dan Swordy and Gerry McInally (127pts), while Robert Leonard and Kevin Mannering were third with 126pts (on count back 18). John Oldham and Mandy Oldham (126pts) were fourth.

There was also a special moment for Wilkinson, sinking a hole in one on the final day.

Organiser Daniel Harrison said: “The event was a huge success and we are already looking to expand the field to 170-plus competitors next year.

“It also proved a huge boost to the local economy with competitors staying and spending in the area.”

Bamburgh Castle golf course staged the first day’s play while the Dunstanburgh Castle course was the venue for the next. The final day was played at the course at Alnwick Castle club.

As well as overall prizes, the competition, sponsored by Bamburgh Castle, also offered daily prizes.
