Castle only just lose out after low-scoring battle

Friendly: Bamburgh Castle (68 ao) v Woolsingham (72-8)

Bamburgh suffered a bad result on Sunday losing to Woolsingham by two wickets after being bowled out for just 68 runs in 15 overs.

Asked to bat first, Bamburgh were soon in trouble and had lost both openers with 16 runs on the board after three overs.

Last week’s batting heroes Tom Lakey and Lawrence Reeves then started to rebuild the innings before Lakey was bowled by Watson for 17. Reeves was run out for 21 with the score on 56-4. Then Bamburgh lost their last six wickets for only 12 runs, indeed five wickets fell with the score on 60. Woolsingham only required two bowlers to whittle out the Castle side with J Wilkes finishing with 5-38 and M Watson 4-29.

When Woolsingham batted, the Bamburgh bowlers took the game to them and wickets tumbled at regular intervals but they didn’t have enough runs to play with. Captain D Jewell made 21 as Woolsingham limped over the line in 22.5 overs. Wickets were taken by Andrew Wright (2-20), Mike Threllfell (3-28) and Tom Woodburn (2-17) but special mention should go to opening bowler Johnny Roxburgh who bowled eight overs for just six runs. His last six overs were all maidens.
