Busy race fortnight in European capitals

IT’S been a busy and successful fortnight for members of Wooler Running Club.

On Sunday, April 15, Nick Johnson completed the Paris Marathon in 3hr 49mins.

Even though it wasn’t a personal best, Nick had a great run and enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere all around the route.

Continuing the marathon trend, last Sunday, Pauline Aitchison completed the London Marathon with a superb personal best of 3hr 20mins, knocking eight minutes off last year’s London time and finishing as 330th lady overall.

Both had put in many hours of training in all conditions so it’s great to see their efforts have paid off.

On a different theme, Claire Bagness demonstrated the diverse talents of the club when she took part in the Newlands Duathlon in the Lake District, also on Sunday.

It involved an 8km trail run, 44km road bike then a 4km trail run, taking in Cat Bells above Derwent Water and Whinlatter and Honister passes along the way.

She finished fourth woman with an overall time of 3hr 16mins – a great result for her first competitive duathlon.

Congratulations to all three of them from everyone at WRC.
