Alnwick Harrier Bruce Crombie clocked the fastest male Harrier 10k time of 2014 with a fine performance in the Druridge Bay 10k.

Other noteworthy performances for the club included Adam Spiller, who knocked almost three minutes from his 2013 time.

Micky Aiston dipped under 45 minutes for the first time, Mike Henry was first over 60 and Tim Shepherd was over nine minutes faster than his 2013 performance. Shelley Coates knocked more than four minutes off her 2013 time.

The day before, a whole host of Harriers were taking part in Parkrun’s up and down the country.

Closest to home, in Newcastle, Richard Agan easily ran the quickest Harrier time of the day. It was a race which also saw a good performance from sixth-placed female Pauline Aitchison which enabled her to finish first in the female 40 category.

The Workington Parkrun saw yet more pb’s and age category wins for Richard and Gay Eastoe, as they both won the 60 categories and chipped away at their previous Parkrun bests.

RESULTS: Newcastle: 6 Richard Agan 17.57; 70 Pauline Aitchison 21.13. Workington: 15 Richard Eastoe 21.22; 27 Gay Eastoe 24.46. Cannon Hill: 26 Graham Syers 18.56. Barnstaple: 15 Andy Squires 21.00. Sedgefield: 73 Emily Young 29.40.

A number of Harriers competed in the North Shields Poly-organised Clive Cookson 10k on Wednesday, May 21. Steve Patterson was first Harrier to finish the fast course in a big pb of 38.46. Next home in his fastest 10k for quite some time was Andy Squires, followed by Mark Doctor who also notched a 10k road race pb (not including his recent glorious 10000m track performance), knocking a massive one second off his previous best from 2011.

Mark Douglas was next home also in a big pb.
