Bradley bats his way to maiden century for Alnwick 2nds

It was back to just one day of action in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League at the weekend and there were wins for Alnmouth, Alnwick, Tillside and Warkworth 1sts in the top divisions.

There was also a win for Alnwick 2nds, for whom Bradley Spiers scored a maiden century.

Alnmouth & Lesbury 1sts had a seven wicket win over Stocksfield 1sts.

The visitors batted first and with a knock of 68 from Adrian Marrison they managed to put on 117 with Dushan Hemantha taking 5-17.

In reply, Alnmouth made 121-3 in less than 17 overs with Hemantha on 64 not out.

Alnwick 1sts also won by seven wickets at home to Ponteland 1sts.

Pont put on 161-8 with Neil Stanley on 41 not out, David Wright on 40 and Paul Lumb on 32. Andrew Scott took 3-26 for Alnwick, who in their innings chased it down in 43 overs with 53 from Max Harrison, 39 from Andrew Stewart and 30 from Jamie Guy.

Tillside 1sts beat Bates Cottages by five wickets in Division 2 at Etal.

The visitors batted first and put on 217 with Calum Bickerton taking 3-40 and two wickets each for Alan Hindmarsh, Luke Dickson and Jake Birkett.

In reply, Tillside chased it down in 34 overs, putting on 220-5 with Birkett too scoring on 61, 33 from Jamie Pick and 26 from Ross Hindmarsh.

Warkworth 1sts won by 56 runs away to Benwell & Walbottle 1sts in Division 3.

Warkworth batted first and 52 from opener Scott Gibson and 48 from Keith Douglas helped the visitors post a respectable 244 all out in their 50 overs.

Two Benwell bowlers, Joe Turnbull and Stephen Reed, each took four wickets.

In their innings the home side made a solid start with 50 from opener Nick Tomlinson, plus 33 from Gavin Brown and 31 from Sam Wotherspoon.

But with Michael Renfrey taking 4-25 and two wickets each for Adam Hall and William Pringle, they were all out for 188 in 42 overs.

Alnwick 2nds won by nine runs when they travelled to take on Warenford.

Alnwick batted first, and with a maiden century from Bradley Spiers (123), they posted 164 all out with Graham Rogerson taking 5-29.

In reply, Warenford were 155-8 in their 40 overs with opener Brian Thompson top scoring on 74. Michael Kirkup was Alnwick’s most successful bowler with figures of 4-14.

Alnmouth & Lesbury 2nds lost out by 11 runs at away to Ponteland 2nds in Division 4.

Andrew Morgan top scored with 34 as Pont made 129 all out with three wickets each for Sean Hutchinson and Paul Martin.

Evan Moir top scored with 31 as Alnmouth replied with 118 all out in 30 overs, Jeff Oliver and Jai Punia taking three wickets apiece.

Wooler went down by 99 runs on their visit to Ashington Rugby 2nds.

Opener Stuart Rosser hit a fine 133, including 15 fours, and Dean Hardy hit 66, as Ashington made 238-3.

Wooler were 139-6 in reply with Les Porteous and Ian Clarke both on 26 and Thomas Comber in 23.

Tillside 2nds’ away game to Bates Cottages 2nds was postponed as the home side could not raise a team.

Howick went down by four wickets at home to Kirkley 1sts. Harry Ash hit 93, Christian Rowe and Chris Farrelly 46 each and there was 42 from Andrew Horner, as Kirkley posted a big score of 305-6 in their 40 overs.

Andrew Hodgson hit 50 as Howick put on 148 all out in reply, Kieran Douse claiming 5-40 and Horner 3-43.

The game between Warkworh 2nds and Embleton was cancelled as Embleton were unable to raise a team.
