Alnwick Amateur Boxing Club has managed to land a long-term sponsorship deal, after proving a knock-out success since opening its doors.
The group started in summer 2012 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Last week, it hit another high note, by securing an agreement with Arch – the investment and regeneration arm of Northumberland County Council – worth £2,000 a year.
Coun Dave Ledger, who is Arch chairman and deputy leader of the county council, visited the club on Thursday.
He presented a cheque for £2,000 and said that Arch would honour this commitment year-on-year.
Club chairman Gary Pattinson said: “This is a generous long-term sponsorship deal for our club.
“It is a real relief and gives the club a good financial standing.”
The sponsorship deal was brokered by Alnwick town and county councillor Gordon Castle, who has long supported the club.
He said: “I am delighted that Arch has recognised the great work done by Alnwick Amateur Boxing Club and its small but highly-dedicated team of volunteers, led by Gary Pattinson.
“In 18 months they have worked wonders, from virtually nothing but a good idea, to the establishment of a well-respected and successful boxing club that is a major benefit to our town. This money is a real lifeline .”
