Alnwick Bowling Club
An Alnwick Bowling Club four has reached the semi-finals of the Northumberland EBA competition. George Turner, Ray Topping, Russ Dale and Doug Miller (s) beat a strong Gosforth four skipped by George Yeoman 23-16.
It was a close game until the middle of the match when the Alnwick four got a six which changed the game and eventually gave them victory.
If they beat a four from St George’s in the next round they will have a place in the national finals at Worthing later in the year. Ray Topping has also reached the quarter-finals of the singles competition.
In the league, Alnwick’s tale of woe continues. They were beaten in the Nines by Benfield 53-47, claiming only two out of the six points and in the Clegg competition lost to Gosforth 10-4.
North Northumberland League
Half-way mark in the fixtures list and Rothbury still lead the way, though this week they visited Wooler and lost 6-2 on a shots total of 66-58.
Amble lost 5-3 on shots of 58-58 at home to Seahouses and shared the bonus points.
Alnwick won 6-2 on a shots total of 56-46 away to Lesbury.
Wooler and Amble have each got a game in hand which could alter the look of things when played.
