Blyth Town suffer late defeat in chaotic nine-goal thriller

Blyth Town lost 5-4 to Kendal Town on Saturday afternoon.

Blyth Town found themselves on the wrong end of a nine-goal thriller against Kendal Town on Saturday afternoon, with a trio of late goals ultimately costing Michael Connor’s men all three points in a chaotic affair at the Westmorland Flooring Stadium.

The Northumberland outfit had led 4-2 heading into the final 10 minutes, but were sucker-punched by a last gasp fightback from their hosts, who scored their eventual winner from a rebounded penalty.

Blyth’s afternoon had started brightly as Adam Johnson’s low driven effort put them ahead in the 10th minute, but Kendal would restore parity shortly after through a well-taken free-kick.

Town would once again edge themselves ahead just before the half-hour mark when Bailey Adamson smartly buried his first of the contest, but after going in a goal to the good at the interval, Connor’s side would relinquish their lead just minutes into the second period due to an untimely own goal.

Undeterred, however, Blyth kicked on admirably, and netted a third just prior to the hour-mark as Konnor Lamb befuddled a pair of Kendal defenders before slotting a strike into the bottom corner. Eight minutes later, Adamson bagged his second - and Town’s fourth - of the game, but as the clock ticked down things unravelled catastrophically for the away team.

First, Tom Russell pulled one back for the hosts in the 79th minute with a superb effort, and as the game entered its closing stages, Kendal equalised to make it 4-4 before snatching the win when a saved penalty spot was put away on the rebound. Alfie Marriot was then shown a red card after the final whistle.
