A NEW open golf competition, with hundreds of pounds of prize money up for grabs, takes place this summer.
Competitors are being urged to enter the three-day Northumberland Three Castles Golf Tournament, which will run from July 24 to July 26.
Sponsored by Bamburgh Castle, the contest will be held at Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle golf clubs.
Tournament organiser, Daniel Harrison, said: “The tournament will give people the chance to play on three excellent golf courses.
“It is great value to enter and there is a decent amount of prize money up for grabs too.
“We hope this event will attract golfers not only from other parts of the country, but also members of other clubs in the North East.
“Entry is limited to 56 pairs for the first year, however we hope the event will grow bigger and bigger in the future.”
Bamburgh Castle will stage the opening day of the tournament, while Dunstanburgh Castle will hold the next.
Alnwick Castle will host the third and final day of the competition, which is a better ball format.
Entry fee for all three days is £66 per pair or £30 for a single day.
There will be daily prizes of £180 as well as £570-worth of prize money and trophies to be won for the accumulated scores over the three days, while the winners will also be presented with the Bamburgh Castle Cup.
All entrants will be given a discounted entry into Bamburgh Castle.
Director of Bamburgh Castle, Chris Calvert, said: “Bamburgh Castle is very pleased to be putting its name to this new tournament in Northumberland and is sure that it will help drive visitors not only to the tournament itself but also to the castle.
“Bamburgh is at the fore of tourism in the county and is keen to help put Northumberland on the tourism map.”
