For the second time in its short history, Harrier Sarah Gray was the first female to finish the Druridge Bay Parkrun on Saturday.

Following on from her success at the event in mid August, in-form Sarah smashed her previous 5k best by clocking an impressive 20.26, a long way clear of the second female.

Her time was also the quickest 5k by a female Harrier this year so far. It’s been a good few weeks for Sarah who also notched a 10k pb recently and tasted fell race and sprint race glory at last week’s Ingram Show.

First Harrier to cross the line on his Harriers debut was Ross Wilson.

Ross joined the club in the early summer, but was almost immediately injured, hence his belated Harriers bow.

Ross had a good battle with Peter Grey and just beat the now 57-year-old Peter.

However, Peter’s time of 19.08 is a new age-category record at Druridge Bay, and his WAVA score of 81.71 per cent was the second best of the 90 runners.

Next home was Druridge Bay regular Mark Miller, followed by Sarah, then Ken Hodson.

Ken’s time of 23.06 was a 41-second course pb. Also taking part were Stuart Bruce, Karl Baxter and Alex Reed with dog Jess.

Alnwick Harriers results: 3-Ross Wilson 18.56; 4-Peter Grey 19.08; 5-Mark Miller 19.22; 7-Sarah Gray 20.26; 26-Ken Hodson 23.06; 47-Stuart Bruce 26.22; 71-Karl Baxter 31.45; 78-Alex Reed 34.15.

Overall Druridge Bay results (90 runners): Men: 1 Lee Cuthbertson, (Blyth RC), 17.55; 2 Mark Snowball, (Morpeth Harriers), 18.37; 3 Ross Wilson, (Alnwick Harriers), 18.56; 4 Peter Grey, (Alnwick Harriers), 19.08; 5 Mark Miller, (Alnwick Harriers), 19.22.

Women: 1 Sarah Gray, (Alnwick Harriers), 20.26; 2 Gwenda Cavill, (Morpeth Harriers), 21.39; 3 Anne Swift, (Uknetrunner), 21.44; 4 Susan Smith, (Morpeth Harriers), 23.20; 5 Carol Parry, (Unattached), 23.45.

Over in Cumbria, Gay and Richard Eastoe were age-category winners once again at the Workington Parkrun.

Richard came agonisingly close to setting a course pb, falling just two seconds short.

Results: 16-Richard Eastoe 21.12; 35-Gay Eastoe 25.24.

Later that day, five Harriers were in action in the Thropton Show (Simonside) Fell Race.

First Harrier to cross the line in this 6.5-mile race was Andy Squires, finishing just ahead of convert to the hills Micky Aiston.

Jim Lillico was next, followed by the always posing Kim Bronze.

Harrier Mike Telfer was also taking part, though in a Northumberland Fell Runners vest.

Results: 21-Andy Squires 58.39; 34-Micky Aiston 1.03.36; 36-Mike Telfer (NFR) 1.04.53; 39-Jim Lillico 1.05.33; 60-Kim Bronze 1.15.01.

Finally for Saturday, Dave Coates was in action for the Harriers at the RAF Spadeadam Half-Marathon. This is an undulating race, mostly on forest tracks around the RAF site.

Dave finished this toughie in 2.01.09.

The following day, Gary Cowell and the Eastoes took part in the SCA Prudhoe Miners 10k.

Again this is not the easiest of race, which meant that Gary’s time of 42.52 was a good one, seeing him home in 18th place.

Richard Eastoe finished 96th in 53.35, while Gay was 109th in 56.15.
