ALNWICK CASTLE

Winter League: So we reach the penultimate week of the 2014/15 Winter League and Wayne Belisle makes his charge towards the top of the Order of Merit. He is now in second place on 63pts with still a mathematical possibility of overtaking Carl Green who has held the top spot for so long and now has 76pts. Wayne’s outstanding 38pts, playing off scratch, headed a 42-strong field in week 18 of the competition. Two points back on 36points there was a three-way-tie for the minor placings which when the countback had been calculated saw Marc Friar in second, Bob Chalmers third and Lawrie Stewart fourth. Eight twos were scored by seven players with Wayne Belisle taking two shares of the pot and Steve Miller, Mick Hubbard, Micky Bell, Jimmy Cookson, Marc Friar and Kevin Murphy one each.

Net Zecca Accumulator: A score of 40pts could see any one of six players steal the Net Zecca Accumulator prize from Carl Green who leads the table on a total of 190. In the chasing pack are Brian McFall, Kevin Murphy, John Pentleton, Colin Donaldson, Peter Lewis and Alan Black.

Zecca Net Eclectic: Carl Green who is almost home and dry in the Zecca Net Eclectic on 62points is surely looking at a summer handicap adjustment based on his successes which has seen his handicap reduce from 24 to 17 over the past five months of the winter league season.Andrew Dodd and Brian McFall are in a photo finish for second place with both players having a score of 57, they are also glancing over their shoulders at Ray Holding who is currently on 56 and a chasing group of four players, namely Kevin Murphy, Arthur Wheatcroft, Kenny Darlow and club Captain Duy Lam all on 55.

The Zecca Gross Eclectic: This now sees Wayne Belisle get his nose in front on 57, but a couple of birdies in the last week could see either Colin Donaldson or Guy Ridley, both now on 59, leapfrog into the top slot.

Exciting Climax: And so, to conclude, the Swansfield course of Alnwick Castle Golf Club will be the place to be this Sunday with so much at stake and so much yet to be decided over the final 18holes as the 2014/15 Winter League reaches its climax. Results – Winter League (Week 18): 1 W Belisle 38pts; 2 M A Friar 36pts; 3 R Chalmers 36pts; 4 LE Stewart 36pts. Winter Open 4BBB (Sat, Feb 21): 1 A Bryant & K Renton 43pts; 2 M Hubbard & R Henderson 42pts; 3 M Wilson & M Wake 40pts(on back 9). Nearest The Pin: A Watt.

WARKWORTH

Texas Scramble: A Texas Scramble played under a cold but sunny sky resulted in three teams achieving five-under-par scores of 61, with Team Beverley’s handicap delivering the prize money. 1 Team Beverley 61-5.7=55.3; 2 Team Garton 61-4.4=56.6; 3 Team Allison 61-3.8+57.2

Next week members will play a Bisque Par - another rarely used format in which the player himself rather than the card decides at which hole to take shots - with the proviso that the selection has to be made before the tee shot is hit.
