Captain’s Day: Blanket rain for the early hours and throughout the morning resulted in Duy Lam’s Captain’s Day being abandoned at lunchtime on Sunday. This does, however, mean that Duy will be the first captain of Alnwick Castle Golf Club to have two captain’s days, well one-and-a-half if you want to be accurate and may have been the first ever to swim, instead of driving into office. The evening entertainment did go ahead, after most had dried out. Billy Craig sang and provided music for dancing and a great night was had by all. Sorry, Duy, did I say I wouldn’t mention your gold lame shirt, I can’t remember. What I can remember is that Duy’s Captain’s Day has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 17, when hopefully the sun will shine as bright as his shirt.

May I take this opportunity of welcoming new course manager Stuart Tait to the club. Many members are already singing his praises after seeing a distinct improvement in the course in only a few weeks he has been at the reins. For anyone who is interested, Stuart has written his first Course News, which can be found on the club’s website at

The first round of the seniors singles summer series stableford competition was held last week and it resulted in a win for Brian Hunt. In second place, only one point behind, was Tommy Pickard on 37pts and John Eels in third on 36. Only two twos were carded by Lawrie Stewart and Peter Lee.
