Captain’s Day: The 2015 captain, Johnny Blythe, drove off in front of an excellent crowd of well-wishers. Despite some atrocious weather in the morning, there was still some decent scoring which resulted in the best being net 71s, but with three players all on that same mark. So, after the countbacks had been analysed, the declared winner was young Johnny Luke, closely followed by Brad Barrett and then 16-year-old Evan Moir. In fourth place was club stalwart John Clark, 72, with the five players in fifth place on 73 being the captain himself, Johnny Blythe, plus Chris Goodwin, Bob Boyle, Keith Dawson and with the lowest Gross of 74 - 2015 vice-captain Ritchie Campbell.
Senior Captain’s Day: Seniors captain Jack Kidd drove off in fine, sunny conditions to kick off the 2015 season. A good turnout achieved some good scoring with the winner on the day being Tommy Harris 20pts; 2 George Forman 19; 3 Dave Hodge 18; joint 4 Les Aitken and Bob Boyle; joint 6 John Clark and Jackie Ross. This coming Sunday sees the annual SO Williams Trophy between Alnmouth’s two golf clubs, the Village and our neighbours, Foxton.

Monthly Medal: On a lovely spring day, 52 members contested the second Monthly Medal of the year. The winner only one shot ahead of the field despite a triple bogie finish was Peter ‘Penrose’ Lewis. His net score of 68 was just enough to see Marc Friar, Steven Cooper and Jack Friar into second, third and fourth places separated only on the countback. Guy Ridley and Jack Friar both shared the best gross score of 73. There were no less than 10 twos making a very small payout on the day. A special mention to Brian McFall and a lesson to all other golfers who despite an unfortunate 12 on his card on the seventh hole carded all his other scores and finished with a net 80 and no NRs. Members are reminded that the draws have now been made for the seasons knock outs and can bee seen on the noticeboard or at www.masterscoreboard.co.uk There are still tee times left for the Open Texas Scramble this Saturday and with £560 in prize money up for grabs its well worth the £40 entry fee for a team of four players. Northumberland Golf Union Seniors versus Juniors: On Sunday, March 29, the club hosted the annual Northumberland Golf Union Seniors versus Juniors match. The course, prepared by green keeper Alan Dalby and his assistant Ian, attracted high praise from players and officials alike. A stiff breeze and some driving rain kept the scores up and the ‘oldies’ came out winning by eight matches to two with one halved. Easter Saturday is, by tradition, the opening day of the season. The day started with a well-supported coffee morning run by the ladies section and then a large crowd watched as new captain Pete Holleran drove into office. The first major of the season, The Warkworth House Trophy, sponsored by The Warkworth House Hotel, was up for grabs and John Glass took the honours, but the big financial winner was Dave Arkley who won the ‘nearest the pin at the sixth’ and rounded off his excellent tee shot by rolling in the putt for the only two of the day to scoop the double roll-over pot. Club chairman John Gray and his renowned JAG disco provided the evening entertainment during which the trophy was presented.
Warkworth House Trophy: 1 J Glass 74-9=65; 2 D Cook 78-12=66; 3 T Capron 80-11=69.
Wilkinson Cup (Juniors): The weekend rounded off with the Junior Competition for the C Wilkinson Cup. Three players tied on 73 and were separated by a back-nine countback, but Kyle Brown romped home as clear winner with an amazing nett 56. He is looking forward to playing off a much reduced handicap in future.
Results: 1 K Brown 88-32=56; 2 A Wales 105-28=73 (back nine); 3 D Cook 84-11=73.
