Winter League (Week 7): Due to the amount of rain in the preceding few days, Week 7 of the winter league was played over a shortened course of 14 holes. The short (and sometimes long) course expert on the day was Wayne Belisle, whose fabulous round contained no less than five birdies, eight pars and a solitary bogie which netted him 33 points and first place.
In second, only one point adrift, was Peter Lee, while Jimmy Cookson with his third top-ten finish was a further point back in third.
The top eight players all felt the blade of Steve’s Axe come down on them sharply with cuts being made on general play due to the shortened course. The net result for Wayne being that he is now playing off scratch. The rest will need to check their handicaps before teeing off this weekend.
Of the 45 who contested on the day, only three players had twos, making a nice payout for Ian Bell, Alan Johnson and Winter League twos expert Guy Ridley who brought this season’s tally so far to an impressive five in the six weeks he has played.
The Winter League overall points table is now headed by Kevin Murphy on 41pts followed by Carl Green with 38pts and John Pentleton 32.
In the Zecca Eclectics, Carl Green leads the net with 59pts, Ray holding in second place on 56 and junior member Andrew Dodd on a very creditable 55. The gross table shows Steven Cooper and Guy Ridley sharing the top position on 61 with Wayne Belisle closing in only one behind on 62. Winter League Week 7 (played over 14holes): 1 W Belisle 33pts; 2 PT Lee 32pts; 3 J Cookson 31pts.
