Festival of Britain Trophy: In an exciting finish to the Festival of Britain Trophy at Anwick last weekend, no less than five of the 63-strong field all scored 40pts and had to be separated on countback

Peter Lewis was victorious on the day, by the smallest of margins, in second was seniors section captain Bob Chalmers, Tim Pearson was third followed by Kenny Darlow and Brian McFall. The three players who shared the spoils of the twos club were Jack Friar,Tim Pearson and Alan Dodd.

Easyway Order of Merit: The Easyway Order of Merit kindly sponsored once again by local estate agents is decided by the total number of points accumulated from all individual and selected matchplay competitions throughout the summer and two weeks in is being led by Ian Tate on 250pts, in second place is Peter Lewis on 225, followed by Michael Friar on 213.

Eclectic competitions: The club are running both gross and net eclectic competitions. The gross is for the fewest gross strokes taken on each hole and the net for the most stableford points on each hole.

At this early stage of the season the leaders in the gross are Steven Cooper and Barry Farrar on 71 and in the net a three-way tie between Michael Smith,Tim Pearson and Peter Lewis all on 45.

The members club AGM will be held in the clubhouse on Wednesday, at 7.30pm.

Festival of Britain Trophy (Stableford): 1 PJD Lewis 40pts (on last six); 2 R Chalmers 40 (on last nine); 3 T Pearson 40 (on last nine); 4 KW Darlow 40 (on last nine). Finally if you haven’t yet tried Mick and Margie’s magic meals why not pop into the clubhouse and see what’s on their menu, in particular their delicious Sunday lunches are becoming very popular indeed.

Greensomes Trophy: A large field of 54 gathered to contest this prestigious trophy. Fantastic scoring from John Cassidy and Daniel Cooke edged out Lee Baxter and Paul Douglass on the back nine only. Both scores of 46 points equating to 10 under par, not seen very often in the greensomes format. Long putts were the order of the day with both pairings dropping them from all points of the compass. In third with a creditable 44 points were the Gray twins, Ian and Paul, who also had one of the two twos achieved, at the sixth. Ross Young’s pairing had the other at the first hole on his comeback to competitive golf.

Scores: Team Cassidy 46pts,Team Baxter 46 (back nine); Team Gray 44.
