JR Forster Cup: Winter is coming to the Old Links, time for the JR Forster Cup methinks. Another close competition where the early starters got the worst of the conditions with wind and mist until lunchtime. This did not deter Richard Davison who put in a two-hour stint on the new practice range before posting a tidy 37pts. This was matched only by Mick Beverley, whose long hitting kept his card ticking over, only for Richard to edge it on the last nine with a 4,4,4 finish. In second, on 36, was ‘dancing’ Ken Bailey, who finished with five pars to edge Michael ‘notso lucky’ Lucas on the back nine holes. There were seven two clubs with the Glass, Brown, Hindhaugh and Shanks syndicates taking the spoils on a day when in a field of 52, there were only two golfers below the par.
Scores: R Davison 37pts; M Beverley 37 (back nine); K Bailey 36; M Lucas 36 (back nine).
Temple Trophy: 1 Kathleen Dalby 3up; 2 Joan Gray 1up; 3 Jill Robertson 1up; 4 Doreen Campbell Level.
J Angus Trophy: Another tight Sunday and a repeat of last week as Daniel Cooke and Freddie Bremner were only separated on the back nine again as both posted nett 72s. In third place was Oliver Bremner who pushed Kyle Brown back into fourth place as the junior season closed on a high. Daniel also won the putting competition for the Baxter Broomhandle Putter Trophy. The annual dinner-dance starting sheet and menu is now up on the clubhouse media stations for November 8, shindig at the Sun Hotel, so get to those tablets and iPads or click on the menu app on the club website.
