Alnwick Castle

Winter League: The 2013/14 Winter League draws to a close. The final round has been played but the results of the overall positions in the Order of Merit and the Zecca Eclectic challenges won’t be announced until after the completion of The Les Cooper Memorial Trophy on Sunday lunchtime in the clubhouse, so be there guys, you may have won something. Back to week 19, as I said the final week, and Geordie Brown took the final first place with a fabulous 40pts on a positively spring-like morning at Swansfield. He headed the field by one point with Cyril Jobson making his usual late-season charge for victory. There followed no less than six players all on 38pts, namely, in order on countback, Kenny Darlow, Albert Straughan, Mick Hubbard, Marc Friar, Guy Ridley and Bob Shepherd. I should also mention that Guy Ridley had the best gross on the day with a magnificent 38pts, a round of two under par playing off a scratch winter handicap.

Twos club: The twos club were nine in number last week – Messrs Shepherd, Lewis, Pentleton, Simpson, Hubbard, Jobson, Farrar and finally two twos for Colin Donaldson at the fourth and the 15th.

Race Night: Please remember if you are going to the Race Night on Saturday, March 29, (and if not, why not?) to put your names on the list in the clubhouse for catering purposes.

Open Texas Scramble: The first Open Texas Scramble, on Saturday, April 5, looms ever closer. Four-person teams costing £40 per team, with a prize pot totalling well over £500, should make it a great day. Tee times can now be booked online at or by the old-fashioned method of telephoning the clubhouse on 01665 602632.

Winter League (week 19): 1 G Brown 40pts; 2 CW Jobson 39; 3 KW Darlow 39.
