Winter League: 2014 kicked or should I say teed off with week 10 of the Winter League being played last week over the Swansfield course. On a cool dry and bright January morning, no less than 51 blew away the cobwebs with some impressive scores being recorded. On top of the scoreboard was Colin Donaldson with a magnificent 42 points. Only two behind him was Jon Gaines with 40 and then followed Russell Cooke on 38. Just over a quarter of the field managed to equal or better their handicap resulting in the Steve’s axe being swung into action and adjustments being made accordingly. Five twos were recorded on the day, two of them by Eddy Jury at the second and 17th, the others by Les Simpson at the fourth and Micky Bell and Guy Ridley both at the 15th. Wayne Belisle still heads the leaderboard followed by Peter Lewis, Kevin Murphy and Guy Ridley. These four are opening up a gap but with only half of the season over it could all so easily change at the top. The second half of the winter league also incorporates the Zecca gross and nett eclectic competitions, which now run until the end of the season. Up-to-date leaderboards will be posted here in future weeks.

Winter League (Week10): 1 CJ Donaldson 42pts; 2 J Gaines 40; 3 R Cooke 38.

The winter Chicken Run and Eclectic stableford: The series resulted in the closest finish ever. 22 players braved the weather over nine weeks and, with the best four cards counting, the competition ended in a tie between Iris Gilhome and Lucy McGregor. Taking the last nine holes of their best cards still resulted in a tie, then the last six holes, then last three holes it was still a tie. Only taking the last hole was Iris declared the winner of the coveted trophy by one shot. Lucy, who has only been playing for a couple of years, won the eclectic competition by a margin of five shots.
