Winter League: The match secretary had his axe fully sharpened as the Winter League kicked off at Swansfield last Sunday, all of the top three players had their handicaps chopped by a full four shots. In first place but only on countback was Cyril Jobson with an inspiring six under par 42pts which saw his handicap slashed from 11 to 7. In second place was Neil Armstrong also with a fine total of 42 was reduced from 13 to nine and Russell Cooke whose 41pts and third place saw him suffer a 15 to 11 reduction. It has to be mentioned that Dan Harrison who was in fourth place also with 41pts returned the best gross score of the day with a level par 36pts and his potential winning round containing three birdies and 12 pars was only spoiled by three bogies in the last four holes. The two’s club had only four members making a moderate payout to John Pentleton, Bob Chalmers, Russell Cooke and Chris Jobson. The Zecca accumulator is also running this year for the best three aggregate stableford points totals of the winter league alongside the Easyway Order of Merit for the overall cumulative points awarded according to position each week.
