McDonald Cup: Peter Smith bounced back from a disappointing result in the previous week’s Medal to claim victory in the tricky bogie format McDonald Cup with a fine score of 3up. He was one hole ahead of second-placed Kevin Murphy and two in front of club big hitters Dan Swordy and Michael Smith in third and fourth respectively. Result: 1 P Smith 3up; 2 K Murphy 2up; 3 D Swordy 1up.
Mick Hubbard Seniors Trophy: This competition was finally staged at the fourth time of asking due to previous foggy and ‘summer drought’ conditions. Robbie Stevenson was the eventual winner with a score of 38 stableford points. No less than four players had similar scores of 36pts and the minor places were decided only on countback, they were Ray Straker, Tom Lang, Alan Black and Ian Tate. Result: 1 R W Stevenson 38; 2 R Straker 36; 3 TB Lang 36.
Open Texas Scramble (Sat): Victory for the home team of Dan Swordy, Mick Hubbard Geoff Dobson and Steve Barron with a score of 60-3=57.7; 2 Kenny Boyd, John Pentleton, Brian Nattrass and B Barrett with 61-3.3=57.7; 3 E Mitchell, J Aitchison, J McKay and S Jappy with 65-6.5=58.7. Castle Cup: A good field gathered for the Castle Cup at the Old Links last weekend to witness a runaway victory for senior Les Graves. The format and conditions were ideal for his game as he racked up a stunning 44 points to finish four clear of John Heron. John made a welcome return to form to hold off captain Davey Parker by a shot and claim second sweep. Only two twos were record, both at the easy first. Members should note the new dates for the Greensomes Trophy, on Saturday, and the last major the Deuchar Cup, on Sunday, 30.

Ladies Senior Open: Heather Allan, J Archer and L Bewley won on 78pts ahead of Kathleen Brydon, Pat Tatters and Sheilagh Curle on 76.
