Alnwick Castle

IT was a memorable day at Swansfield last Sunday as a stalwart member of the club, Robbie Stevenson, proudly drove into office as the club captain for 2012.

A great day’s golf was had by all followed by some lovely food supplied by caterer Michael Hindmarsh and evening entertainment in the clubhouse by Billy Craig. The green staff must also be congratulated for a course presented in immaculate condition.

The winner of the captain’s prize on the day was Michael Smith with a great score of 40pts, he edged out three players all on 39pts who had to be separated on countback, Jack Friar, Keith Richardson and the one-time early leader in the clubhouse Ian Ferguson.

The captain also presented prizes to the leading Lady, Jill Clark with 36pts and runner up Gillian Gordon on 35, similarly to the Junior section where the victor was Joe Henderson, 36 and Marc Friar 35 in second place.

Other prizes were as follows: Nearest the pin on the 2nd, Gerry McInally, Guy Ridley on both the 4th and 17th and Wayne Belisle on the 15th. The longest drives were Gillian Gordon on the 6th and Steven Miller on the18th.

A prize for the most points scored on four hidden holes was won by Bob Shepherd with 12pts.

Two’s were scored by Steven Cooper, Rod Henderson Ray Baston, Wayne Belisle, Tom Naples and Gerry McInally and Guy Ridley who both recorded two two’s.

I have to say the highlight of my day personally was playing with current and immediate past presidents of the club, Lawrie Stewart and Tom Jamieson, the latter whom I’m sure won’t mind me saying was the elder statesman on the course on the day at a spritely 86 years of age, something for all golfers to aspire to I think?

Captain’s Day: 1 M Smith 40pts; 2 J Friar 39; 3 K Richardson 39; 4 I Ferguson 39.
