WITH a hard ground frost but a surprisingly warm air temperature, no less than 46 of the 55 players who have played in this year’s Winter League contested week 16 of the competition.
From the early tee-offs, Cyril Jobson led the field with 33pts but strong finishes from the latter starters saw him slip to seventh place.
The eventual top two were only separated on countback as Wayne Belisle just edged out Ian Ferguson, who almost achieved a double victory after his part in a rare darts win for the A team on Friday night.
Hot on the heels of these two were Keith Richardson and Michael Smith, who was making only his third appearance of the winter season.
Last week’s winner’s smile was somewhat narrower but nevertheless Michael Bell was once again in the points with his fifth place.
Keith Richardson, at the second hole, and Michael Bedford, at the 17th, shared the spoils of the twos club.
As a gentle reminder to others, Kenny Darlow fell foul of rule 6-6(b) by not signing his card and was therefore unfortunately disqualified.
In the Order of Merit, Kevin Murphy once again gave way to Wayne Belisle at the top. Tom Greaves and Phill Ginger remained in third and fourth respectively and Keith Richardson metaphorically hopped over James Cookson into fifth spot.
Results: Winter League (Week 16): 1 Wayne Belisle 38pts; 2 I Ferguson 38pts; 3 K Richardson 36pts; 4 M Smith 35pts. Order of Merit: 1 W Belisle 77pts; 2 K Murphy 67pts; 3 T Greaves 65pts; 4 P Ginger 48pts.
