Winter Competition: The final Winter Competition on the testing layout drew a good field despite the freezing conditions and so began the quest for the John Gray Claret Jug. The master chef on the day was young Daniel Cook, whose recipe for success was to keep the ball low in calories and mainly in play. He battered the field by a full seven shots and there were only second helpings for Daz Hindhaugh and Steve Anderton, whose 33pts were good enough for sweep money only. Elder lemons Jack Hindhaugh and N Sawley had slightly under-cooked rounds and were a full four shots further back. Scores: D Cook 40pts; D Hindhaugh 33; S Anderton 33 (back nine).
New captain: Michael Lucas has begun his year well and, on March 24, he is inviting all golfers for a free four-hole taster with coffee thrown in on the new Appian Way section of the course. From 9am to 12.30pm, you can play the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth holes to try out this historical links gem.
Mary Powell Trophy: Louvain Wraith 228.5; 2 Joan Gray 229.5; 3 Moyra Howie and Rosemary Hopkinson 234.5.
Millenium Trophy (Eclectic): 1 Gwen Turnbull 36-5=31; 2 Moyra Howie 36-37/16=329/16; 3 Joan Gray 38-55/16=3211/16; 4 Heather Barnes and Rosemary Hopkinson 40-69/16=337/16; 6 Christine Douglas 39-55/16=3311/16.
