On Saturday members from the Alnwick Triathlon Club travelled down to Gateshead to attend a special awards ceremony to celebrate the 2016 triathlon season.

Throughout the season there are particular races in which race positions count towards the Grand Prix and at the conclusion the points are tallied and the winners in each age group are decided.

So it was well done to Lisa Williams, Denise Drummond and Ian Atherton for finishing a superb second in their respective categories whilst Lynne Bannister achieved a splendid first in her category.

Next up were the workforce awards, which are for the people and tri clubs that have made outstanding contributions to the club and triathlon community throughout the year.

Nominations were sent in for the North East Region and voted for by the North East Triathlon Regional committee. Stuart Bruce won Technical Official of the Year for his efforts over seeing a lot of the races in North East England and making sure events were run according to Triathlon England’s Rules and more importantly in a fun and safe manner.

Richard Agan won Senior Volunteer of the Year for his commitment in organising club races, overseeing the day to day activities of the club and helping the club achieve Club Mark Status.

Alnwick Triathlon Club won club of the year, due to the fact it is a fantastically friendly club with the whole range of abilities from complete beginners, through GB Age Group athletes and ironman athletes to elite level athletes and world champions.

The coaches (level 1, 2 and 3) are some of the best in the region and the country. The Sprint Triathlon sells out in a couple of hours and attracts competitors from all over the UK. There is an even split of members with 50% female members and 50% of the coaches are female.

Talent for coaching is recognised no matter the age or sex of our club members.

The winners of the Work Force Awards are automatically sent for nomination to the national Triathlon England Awards so good luck in the future to Stuart, Richard and to the club.
