NORTH ONE EAST
Alnwick 24 Pocklington 13
Alnwick Rugby Club had a great start to the year with a win over Pocklington at home this afternoon.
The Greensfield side started the scoring with two penalties from Bird and a conversion from the visitors making it 6-5 soon after the start.
The end-to-end game then saw Bird nudging another penalty just before half time to make it 9-8.
It was back to Bird after the break with another penalty making it 12-8 before scoring a try and then converting to make it 19-8.
The homes side’s Sordy was given a yellow card and Pocklington took advantage of having more men to make it 19-13.
But Bird made his mark again following a good scrum to take it to 24-13.
And despite Alexander and Bird being given yellow cards, and the home side being down to 13 men, they managed to hold the score on the final whistle.
