ALNWICK LADIES 7
NEWCASTLE MEDICS 1
Alnwick Ladies hockey, who are in a rich vein of form, made it seven wins in a row when they beat Newcastle Medics at the weekend.
It was their first game after a lay-off of three weeks and conditions were tricky due to strong winds.
They settled well and began to apply the early pressure and after a good move down the right Reed was on hand to open the scoring after seven minutes.
Medics equalised after 12 minutes, netting from a penalty corner, but from a corner of their own, Alnwick retook the lead through Murray, who fired through a crowded goalmouth.
In the second half, with the wind advantage, Alnwick began to dominate play, and two penalty corner strikes from Cannon and Cook saw the lead increased to 4-1.
Snaith, with some great individual skill to beat two Medics players, unleashed an unstoppable shot from an acute angle to make the score 5-1. Snaith was then on target again with her second of the afternoon following a quick break by Cannon.
Despite the rain, Alnwick continued to attack with pace down the flanks and with five minutes remaining they completed the scoring with another goal from a penalty corner, with Cannon supplying Cook with the opportunity to net.
