Alnwick lose clash at top of the table

Guisborough RFC 20 Alnwick RFC 5

Durham/Northumberland Division One

Alnwick’s lead at the summit of Durham/Northumberland Division One was cut to seven points after losing the table-topping clash with Guisborough.

The high-flying North Yorkshire outfit scored four tries to record a 20-5 victory, in what might be a key result in the battle for the title.

And the second-placed side could reduce Alnwick’s lead at the top further still, as they have a game in hand over the Northumbrians.

Try-scorers Gareth Lodge, Paul Towers, Adrian Rose and Adrian Ruff did the damage on Saturday, as Guisborough avenged a 15-7 defeat earlier in the season.

As for Alnwick, they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Gosforth on Saturday.
