Alnwick 1sts went down to a 42 run defeat when they travelled to take on Cowgate in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League at the weekend.
Most of the home top-end batsmen were in the runs with openers Max Moss (30) and Shehzad Ahmed (29) putting on a decent stand before Naeem Anjum weighed in with a knock of 60 which put the home side on the front foot.
Jaswinder Singh added a further 54 which meant Cowgate posted a useful 201-6 in their 50 overs.
Jonathan Roxburgh and David Wright were Alnwick’s most successful bowlers, each claiming two wickets.
Michael Brewis (48) and Daniel Graham (28) made a decent start for Alnwick in reply.
Andrew Scott contributed a further 41, but they were always behind the required run rate, and with the tail-enders falling cheaply, Cowgate always looked the more likely winners.
In the end Alnwick managed to put on 159 all out after 47 overs.
Singh took 4-42 off side 11 overs and Richard Crawford also kept it tight with 3-29 off eight.
The win places Cowgate second in the A2 table behind leaders Benwell, with Alnwick 12th with only one win from 11 games played.
