In a very tight North One East division, Alnwick’s home win this afternoon may prove to be enough to secure their league status for next season.
The Northumberland side welcomed Dinnington to Greensfield and won 17-14, although they were comfortably ahead and allowed the Yorkshire back into the clash, making for a nervy finish.
The hosts took an early 10-0 lead before a break from Gray led to a Moralee try which was converted by Burn into the wind for a 17-0 scoreline.
Dinnington then had a good period of play and were rewarded with a converted try. Alnwick defended solidly for a period before the visitors broke away from a penalty to score another seven-pointer, but it wasn’t enough to steal victory.
Elsewhere, Alnwick Colts beat Wigton 34-21.
