Alnwick fail to shine on Stocksfield visit

Alnwick 1sts went down to a 145 run defeat against Stocksfield in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League at the weekend.

Stocksfield won the toss and elected to bat, and it proved to be a good decision as all their top-end batsmen were in the runs.

Steven Henderson top-scored with 60, whilst Sam Mannion hit 49 and Tristram Douglas 31.

This helped the home side post a score of 268-8 in their 50 overs.

Andrew Scott was the pick of the Alnwick bowlers with 4-53, whilst Jonathan Roxburgh and David Wright claimed two wickets apiece.

In reply Alnwick got off to a disappointing start with opener Michael Brewis run out for two.

Andrew Scott (45) and David Forrest (33) tried to put some stability into the innings, but with David Wright on 17 not out the only lower order bat to get into double figures, Alnwick found themselves struggling to reach their target andeventually they were all out for 123 in the 35th over.

Rolom Thirlwell was the pick of the Stocksfield bowlers with 4-35.

Alnwick 2nds went down by 96 runs to Stocksfield 2nds.

The visitors posted 298-6 with Chris Catnach on 51 not out (retired), Trevor Walker on 38 and Paul Watson on 36 not out.

Peter Matthewson claimed 4-29 for Alnwick, who in reply were reduced to 202-9 with M Haig their top scorer on 59 and Allen Thompson on 42.

Alistair Thirlwell took 4-39 with the ball for Stocksfield.
