Alnwick bowling rips through Morpeth

Alnwick U15 (90-7) v Morpeth U15 (41 all out)

Alnwick U15s recorded a convincing win against their Morpeth counterparts last Monday.

Batting first, Alnwick recovered from an early collapse and were indebted to a fine partnership between Joe Cowan (24) and Andrew Wright (22).

This helped them reach 90-7 from 20 overs.

S Thompson was one of the key men in the Morpeth bowling attack taking three wickets for 14 runs.

In reply, Morpeth were blown away by an outstanding spell from Sam Mavin who took five wickets for only three runs conceded.

This enabled all the squad to be used in the attack and there were joyous scenes as Jack Convery and Dan Leng both took their first wickets for Alnwick.

Morpeth were bowled out for 41, with C Aviston being the main contributor (21).

• On the same night, Alnmouth & Lesbury U15s took the points as Kirkley U15s conceded in the Northumberland Junior Cricket League.

This week, Alnmouth & Lesbury won by 29 runs against Blagdon Park.

The star performer was Ali Batey, who backed up the match’s high score with the bat of 35, with five wickets and a catch.

Batting first, Alnmouth & Lesbury were all out for 56 in large part due to Batey’s innings. No one else managed to get to double figures.

A Johnson took five wickets for 12 runs for Blagdon.

In reply, Alnmouth, with Batey leading the way, ripped through the Blagdon attack. They were all out for 27 runs inside 15 overs.
