Alnmouth’s young bowlers strike and set up the win

Alnmouth & Lesbury U15 (55-2) v Tynemouth U15 (53)

Alnmouth & Lesbury U15s got their season off to a winning start on Monday night in the Northumberland North and Coast U15 League.

Tynemouth were the visitors and were asked to bat first by captain George Lindley and this proved a good decision as they dismissed Tynemouth in less than 14 overs for just 53.

Olly Tulip did the early damage with his new-style pace bowling as he took two for 10 from four excellent overs.

When Lukas Robinson had the dangerous Matty Longstaff caught to an excellent catch by Tulip for 11, and soon followed with a second wicket, Alnmouth sensed they could restrict Tynemouth to a low score.

Tom Harrop and Joe Tudor chipped in with wickets before the impressive Cameron Thorpe finished off the innings with three wickets without conceding a run off just nine balls.

Alnmouth’s innings got off to a bad start when Lindley was dismissed without a run on the board, but Archie Elder and Robinson took the score to 23 before Elder fell for five.

Ben Kelly (13 not out) then joined Robinson (18 not out) and together they added a chanceless 32 to see the Seasiders home to a comfortable win with more than seven overs remaining.
