Flooded pitches and games being conceded meant the second week of action in the local cricket leagues almost came to a standstill.

In the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League, Alnwick’s home game against Seaton Burn was cancelled, the teams being awarded five points each.

Alnmouth and Lesbury did manage to take to the field against Bedlington and they were rewarded with a big nine wicket victory.

Bedlington batted first and made 142-8 in 48 overs, with Darren Leason top-scoring on 32 and Bradley Purvis on 20 not out.

Nicholas Denton did most of the damage with the ball for Alnmouth, claiming 4-20.

In reply Alnmouth lost Paul Straker early on for nine, but unbeaten knocks of 68 from fellow opener Russell Hughes and 54 from Johnny Ridley saw them to victory.

In the B2 League, Alnwick 2nds’ game away to Seaton Burn was called off due to the weather.

In the Northumberland League it was a similar story with the majority of local games hit by the elements.

Warkworth were washed out away to Blyth in the Premier League, as were Tillside 1sts against Ashington Rugby.

In Division 1, Berwick 2nds went down by 154 runs att home to Blagdon 2nds.

Blagdon batted first and with 54 from opener Elliiott Leybourne, along with 47 from James Goudie and 45 from Paul Johnson, the visitors put on 216-7 in their 50 overs.

Jordan Woodcock was the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 4-55.

In reply, Berwick saw opener Mark Woodcock hit 45, but the support was lacking, with no other bat getting into double figures, Christopher Hall and Alex Higgins doing all the damage with four wickets apiece.

After losing their opening game of the season to Blyth the week before, newly promoted Warenford were forced to concede their Division 1 game away to Whitley Bay 1sts.

In Division 2 Whitley Bay 2nds conceded against Tillside 2nds, giving the Etal side 30 points.

Embleton went down by three wickets at Backworth.

Paul Carss hit 60 as Embleton posted 142-8, but 51 from Adam Black helped the home side reply with 145-7 in the 31st over.

Alnmouth and Lesbury v Wooler in Division 3 was a victim of the weather and both sides picked up five points.
