Alnmouth and Lesbury v Tynemouth

Alnmouth and Lesbury U13s took a giant step towards winning the U13 Northumberland Premier League with a convincing win over Tynemouth on Sunday. This leaves the young seasiders top of the league, with only one game to go.

Tynemouth, having been asked to bat first, started well and Lewis Cass and Matty Longstaff put on 53 for the first wicket inside 10 overs. They were particularly efficient at hitting any loose deliveries.

Once Cass was bowled for 29 by Olly Tulip and Longstaff retired for 32, the Alnmouth bowlers tightened up, took control and made run scoring difficult.

At the end of their overs Tynemouth finished on a below par 83 for 5, with Tulip taking 3 for 18 and Joe Tudor 2 for 11.

Alnmouth knew a steady start was needed and this was duly given to them by the sensible batting of George Lindley and Archie Elder who put on 49 for the first wicket.

After Lindley was trapped lbw and Elder retired on 30, Nick Robertson and Joe Tudor kept up the good work and saw their team home to victory by nine wickets with more than three overs to spare. Tudor’s 12 not out was achieved off just five balls.

Next week’s opponents for Alnmouth are Ashington.
