I READ with interest your article concerning the change from Independent to Conservative by Councillors Castle and Watson. (Northumberland Gazette, April 28).
They seem to have made no secret of their alliance with the Conservative Group and if the voters are dissatisfied with this change they can make their protest felt at the next county council elections. Why spend taxpayers’ money in such hardened times just to satisfy the Liberal Democrats. I must take exception to the pious remarks of their chairman, Dr John Hobrough, stating that ‘trust plays a big part in politics’.
This is a bit rich from a party that dumped many of its policies to go into a coalition government with the Conservatives.
If Councillors Castle and Watson feel that they can best serve their constituents by joining up with the Conservatives then so be it.
