THANK YOU: Retirement

That’s it then, finally ‘retired’ after 25 seasons at Bamburgh Castle, ending with the end-of-season dinner last night.

A great time was had by all. All the same, I was very sad to be saying goodbye to people who have become my closest friends.

I would like to thank the Armstrong family for putting up with me for so long and for their lovely gift of a sketch of the castle by that most prolific of artists, Peter Phillips.

He and his wife Claire are two of the busiest people I have met, and seem to go to the castle art gallery about once a week with a new batch of Peter’s paintings to put on display.

Thanks also to my super colleagues for the collection, which I was not expecting either and will go towards taking my wife out to lunch (at least twice) at some local hostelry or other in the new year.

I shall miss them all, but thanks to Francis Watson-Armstrong, I shall be back to see any changes at least once a year.

A good winter and a super 2015 season to all.
