TALK: Arctic weather delayed session

On behalf of North Northumberland HospiceCare, I would like to say a huge thank you to the pupils, staff and parents of Hipsburn First School who held a fund-raising Black and White Penguin Day at school on Wednesday, July 15.

They raised £61 for my chosen charity that I am running for in the Great North Run in September.

I share my time between working as an expedition guide on a Polar cruise ship in Antarctica and the Arctic and supply teaching, very often at Hipsburn school.

I was supposed to be in school on Wednesday to give the children a slideshow talk all about penguins. Unfortunately, my flight back home from the Arctic island of Spitsbergen, where I had been on board the ship for a month, was delayed due to fog closing the airport and I didn’t make it back in time for the talk. I’m very sorry I didn’t make it, but it sounds as if a lot of fun was had by all.

I’d like to wish all the children, parents and staff a very happy holiday and I promise I’ll re-schedule the talk in September – flights and fog permitting.
