Sad day as pub closes its doors

It is with a huge amount of regret and indeed heartbreak that we have found it necessary to close The Masons Arms, Rennington.

We have worked extremely hard over the past nine years but like so many businesses the past couple of years have been tough.

The sad irony is that the day prior to us coming to the conclusion that we could not carry on we found out that we had won a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence.

However, we would like to publically recognise several people for all their help and support.

All our staff, past and present whose work was invaluable and who have become friends.

In particular, my housekeepers, Kim and Annette, big thanks for all your help over the years.

Our head chef Mark, who worked really hard in developing our menu and has given so much of his own time in trying to make things work for us - huge thanks, couldn’t have done it without you.

All our family who have given so much support - emotional and physical. Particularly Richard who gave up the opportunity to go to University so that he could work in the family business, David who moved from the south with his wife to offer their help and Beverly who left a job she loved to support us when things were tough.

We are so lucky to have them and we appreciate the sacrifices made and are grateful for the opportunity to work as a close-knit family.

Lastly, and most importantly, heartfelt thanks to our friends and our regular customers, too numerous to mention, who have become friends, and who have been loyal to us over the years.

The Sunday crowd, who made every Sunday feel like having a big family lunch, our Tuesday ladies, how we put the world to rights!

And lastly our Friday night quiz regulars. It has been an honour and a privilege to have been part of your lives for so long.

There has been laughter and tears but it has all been wonderful.

We thank-you all and wish all of you the very best.

Alison and Bob Culverwell,

The Masons Arms,
