RETIREMENT: I would do it all again

editorial image

It is with mixed feelings that after over five decades I will rest my hammer on the anvil for the last time on June 30, 2017.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my family, friends, customers and colleagues for their continuous support and loyalty for all of these years.

I am very grateful for your kind generosity in the gifts, cards and good wishes I have received on the lead up to my retirement.

I would also like to extend my appreciation to my four-legged equine friends. I’ll really miss the bites, the kicks, the bumps, and cuts and bruises.

When I started my apprenticeship 53 years ago with Mr John Smith in Gills Lane in Alnwick, I never thought I would have such a varied career. I have met some very interesting people, including royalty and travellers.

I’m often asked if I would choose to pick the same path in life. If the clock could be turned back 53 years and I was faced with the same scenario, I can honestly say I would choose to do exactly the same.

I have had a wonderful career and my thanks once again to everyone who has made it possible.
