PLAYHOUSE: Leave lovely theatre as it is

I was horrified to see that Northumberland County Council is seemingly about to kick the excellent Northumberland Theatre Company out of its own base (Northumberland Gazette, March 17).

Having been great followers of both the NTC and The Playhouse since the present set-up was mooted in the late 1980s, may I politely remind the ‘powers that be’ that the name is Alnwick Playhouse and not ‘the council centre’.

While the money may be welcome, having spent many happy hours not just in the main theatre, but in the lovely studio, I would absolutely hate it to change to a library, visitor centre or anything like that.

There are council-owned buildings in the centre of town that could surely become such premises so please leave our lovely Playhouse alone.
