OPENCAST: A bad effect on tourism

Last week, my wife and I spent a holiday based in Warkworth. We had a wonderful time, met lovely people, had great food and, in particular, enjoyed the magnificent countryside.

We visited Druridge Bay no less than three times, walking our dogs. It is truly an area of exceptional beauty and, living in Scotland, we know a thing or two about that.

It was with dismay that we read of council consent being granted for surface mining in the area.

While providing jobs, we feel that such a development would have a very bad effect on tourism.

We urge all those who seek to preserve this beautiful site to redouble their efforts to persuade those in power to reverse this decision.
