THINKING of the convenience, I have just renewed the TV licence by telephone. I assumed correctly, that it would be an automated service, and therefore brief.
However, I was treated to the usual spiel about the call being recorded for training purposes, followed by the information that, as an alternative, I could renew by using a computer.
Since the relevant leaflet explained all this the advice was superfluous.
Next came the time to key in information.
Finally, I was advised that I could track the application online.
I look forward to the next telephone bill.
Is this progress? How handy it was to just go along to the village Post Office.
